Philippa Spence

Philippa Spence is a Senior Partner with ERM and leads the company’s Northern Europe Impact Assessment and Planning and Contaminated Site Management Practices. She has worked in the mining sector for twenty years in Europe, Africa, the Middle East and the United States. She provides specialist advice on sustainable development, environmental permitting, and environmental and social risk management. She has a specific focus on how to become ‘fit for finance’ and meet the sustainability standards of international Financial Institutions in a practical way.
Philippa has worked as a sustainability specialist on many high profile mining developments globally, including in Serbia. She works at both the corporate level developing strategy, policy and management systems, and at the operational level where these are implemented. Philippa is a leader in ERM’s Sustainable Finance practice, and has extensive experience of applying the Equator Principles, IFC Performance Standards, EBRD Performance Requirements and other associated international standards to assist projects to manage risk to become bankable.
