Title: Integrating traditional data sources with modern resource modelling techniques, to produce robust estimates for improved mine performance.

The course is designed to help resource and production geologists take exploration data and mine site geological observations (such as surface and underground mapping and cross sections) and incorporate them successfully into their mining software to produce robust, reliable and geologically realistic resource domains for use in grade control and resource estimation. This workshop will demonstrate how to maximise the value of this data in a 3D environment.

The workshop is designed to be practical and relevant to all mine, resource and exploration geologists and will be led by experienced consultants from SRK, who operate at the forefront of modern geological modelling and resource estimation.

Overview of the Workshop

The workshop will comprise a presentation and discussion on the integration of different data sources and key aspects of geological domain definition. In the second part of the workshop, a series of case studies illustrating how contemporary methods in geological domain definition are employed using mining software.  The incorporation of key field observations from mine and/or exploration project data into these models will be demonstrated.

Workshop Content

Designed to be applicable to real-world challenges faced by operators and explorers, the workshop will consist of a half day of lectures and practical examples that draw on the global experience of SRK’s resource modelling and estimation group.

The key topics covered in this master class will be:

  • Integration of data from multiple sources, including field, pit and face mapping to better constrain robust resource domains;
  • Using structural data to guide resource modelling;
  • The importance and benefits of effective resource domaining;
  • Key considerations in deciding what and how to model;
  • The importance of geology in all aspects of resource domain definition and evaluation;
  • Rapid resource domain development – keeping up with production.
  • Resource domain validation.

Who should attend

The course is designed primarily for mining and resource geologists who are already involved in the construction and development of resource estimates and/or grade control models and who wish to extend their knowledge and take advantage of the latest developments in 3D modelling software to build robust geological models.

About Rakita Company Ltd

Company website  – http://rakita.net

The main focus of activity for Rakita is the Čukaru Peki Project (the Project), situated within the Brestovac-Metovnica Exploration license. The Čukaru Peki mineral deposit has been subdivided into two zones, the ‘Upper Zone’ and ‘Lower Zone’. Nevsun Resources holds a 100% interest in the Upper Zone, and is the operator. Following completion of a feasibility study on the Upper Zone, Nevsun will hold a 46% interest in the Lower Zone and Freeport will hold the remaining 54%.

Rakita is currently undertaking a pre-feasibility study on the Upper Zone, with the objective of evaluating this high-grade deposit for mining and processing of copper and gold ore. In parallel, exploration of the lower grade, but higher tonnage, Lower Zone is continuing. The Project is located approximately 6 km south of the town of Bor, which is a regional administrative and mining centre approximately 245 km southeast of Belgrade, Serbia. The Project site is favourably located for mining infrastructure (road, rail, power, water) and close to the recently upgraded copper smelter complex in Bor.
