Sustainable Mining Standard
Mining is unique among other industries as it creates the resource base of the modern economy. Mining is of great importance for the Bulgarian economy and is among the fastest developing sectors in the recent years. Mining is also the sector where our country is closest to the average EU levels of labor productivity.
Bulgarian Chamber of Mining and Geology considers that the time has come for the mining companies to go beyond the legal requirements and get on the path towards sustainable development. BCMG sees sustainable development as a modern management practice, going beyond philanthropy and corporate responsibility. It is rather a way for companies to increase value in a long term as they identify, measure and reduce the economic, social and environmental risks and design successful solutions to the local and global challenges. The implementation of the Sustainable Mining Standard would allow a wide range of stakeholders to learn about the industry progress with respect to the three pillars of sustainable development – economy, environment and society.
